Starting a charge when electricity costs less, while also accounting for solar generation: the first clues to Low Cost Charging appeared in Tesla’s app in May 2026. Not a Tesla App identified them while analysing version 4.56.5.
Archive coverage of the report from 6 May 2026, prepared in October 2026. This concerns the early information available then, rather than an announcement activating the feature for all users.
Low Cost Charging: what the code indicated
According to the analysis, the new strings referred to a Wall Connector configuration capable of optimising charging times around the household electricity tariff. References to “Enhanced Charge on Solar” also appeared, connecting the use of surplus solar energy with time-of-use pricing.
The idea was to coordinate the car and home energy system more effectively. Rather than considering only a manually selected time, the system could potentially take the home’s energy preferences into account.
Development clues, rather than general availability
The distinction is essential when reconstructing the news from that period. An entry found in code can show the direction in which a feature is being developed, but does not demonstrate that it is active, available in Italy or supported on every Wall Connector version.
Not a Tesla App identified a reference to supported devices without a complete official list. Compatibility theories therefore remained theories: they were not sufficient grounds to promise the feature to an individual owner.
Why the report deserved attention
The subject addressed a practical need: connecting vehicle charging with household energy management. Any potential benefit, however, depended on the electricity contract and installation; it could not be reduced to the same guaranteed saving for everyone.
This page preserves the record of the clues found in May. Current configurations instead require checking the documentation and options available on your own system.
