Tesla announced its 2026 Summer Update with plans for wider Grok availability and more voice functions, custom vehicle wraps sent from the Tesla app, more personal navigation and a collection of infotainment refinements. This article covered the announcement before the full release notes were available, so final support still depended on the vehicle, software branch and market.

At publication, the rollout was expected to begin within days and proceed gradually, rather than reaching every vehicle at once.

More Grok functions and a wider European rollout

Tesla Summer Update 2026

The announcement described an expansion of xAI’s Grok assistant beyond navigation commands. Planned voice functions included making phone calls, finding and playing music, adjusting climate control and opening the glovebox. The article described a Europe-wide expansion as part of the update; that concerned supported vehicles and rollout plans, not a guarantee that every Tesla in every country would have identical features immediately.

Custom vehicle wraps from the Tesla app

Tesla Summer Update 2026

Previously, custom appearance files had to be transferred using a USB drive. The Summer Update was intended to let owners send wrap images directly from the Tesla app to the car’s display, making the process simpler. These are customisations of the on-screen vehicle avatar, not physical changes to the car’s paint or bodywork.

Navigation that learns familiar routes

Tesla Summer Update 2026

Tesla announced Preferred Routes, designed to remember frequently used roads and suggest them on later journeys. The aim was more personal routing without giving up efficiency: if the familiar route was substantially slower, navigation would still favour the quicker alternative.

Set arrival energy from a phone

The update would bring desired arrival battery percentage into the Tesla app, extending a setting already available in the car. This lets owners plan how much charge they want to have left for later trips after reaching a destination.

More control over the FSD visualisation

Tesla Summer Update 2026

Owners would be able to adjust the zoom level of the Full Self-Driving visualisation. The display would continue adapting to the driving situation, while offering more control over the view of the surroundings. This was a presentation change, not a change to the driver’s supervision responsibilities.

Browser access to the camera and microphone

Tesla Summer Update 2026

With the user’s permission, websites could access the cabin camera and vehicle microphone through the built-in browser. The announcement pointed towards video-conferencing services such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Discord being used from the car’s display while parked, subject to browser and service compatibility.

Smaller changes across the interface

The Summer Update announcement also included:

  • Startup animations for newer Model 3 and Model Y vehicles;
  • Apple Music queue controls from search results and artist pages;
  • a new interface for electronic seat adjustment, extending to more supported models;
  • Caraoke performance scores while the vehicle is parked.

When was it expected?

Tesla said the update would arrive “soon”, without a precise date. As usual, an initial small rollout was expected to expand over the following weeks. Cars on a separate Full Self-Driving software branch might wait longer while the new features were integrated into that version.
