Tesla began bringing Grok, the AI assistant developed by xAI, to selected European markets through software update 2026.2.6. Following its North American debut the previous year, the assistant was expanding to non-English-speaking markets with local-language support.
The update combined general conversation and navigation commands in one assistant for European users. It pointed towards a greater role for AI and connectivity in Tesla’s in-car experience.
Update 2026.2.6: the European rollout
At publication, the report estimated that 2026.2.6 was installed on around 1.4% of the European fleet, with rollout in nine countries: the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal and Spain. The access requirements listed were:
- a vehicle equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor
- an active Premium Connectivity subscription
Grok could be opened on the centre display or by holding the voice button on the steering wheel. Users could choose different voices and personalities, including Assistant, Storyteller, Therapist and Argumentative. Navigation commands required the Assistant personality.

Grok as a navigation assistant
The main addition was Grok with navigation commands. Rather than relying only on fixed phrases, the assistant understood natural-language requests, allowing users to:
- add, change and organise navigation destinations
- respond to complex requests
- handle specific requests, such as finding a Supercharger
The aim was to make route planning more conversational and personalised, with an assistant that could help organise the journey rather than simply display a destination.
Local-language support
Tesla was not simply bringing over the North American version: Grok was localised for the selected European markets, understanding and replying in local languages. This made interaction more natural for users who had faced a language barrier in earlier versions.
What might come next?
The initial rollout covered much of Western Europe. Tesla had indicated further expansion, including Nordic and Central European countries. The article also discussed possible future European FSD developments, but these were separate from Grok’s availability and remained subject to their own requirements and approvals. At publication, timing for cars with Intel infotainment processors was still unclear. Any wider hardware support remained a possibility, not a confirmed release date.
The European Grok rollout was a step towards more capable in-car assistants. Natural-language interaction, navigation support and personalisation brought selected European users closer to features already available in North America.
