Cybercab is preparing to give passengers another way to see what is happening around the car. Tesla is developing the ability to call up rear and side camera images on demand during a journey. The confirmation is brief but clear: the feature is in development. No release date has been announced.
Cybercab: on-demand camera views are in development
The news comes from a reply by Evan from Tesla’s interface team to a request to open camera views whenever passengers want. The reply confirms work on the feature, without identifying an update number or promising immediate activation.
This is the distinction to keep in mind: in development does not mean already available on every Cybercab. The reply did not show the final way to open the views, the button layout or all the conditions in which the images will be accessible.
The images already shown on arrival
Photos shared by Dan Burkland show a screen with three camera views and a prompt to exit safely. This is an arrival feature: the display offers a view of the outside surroundings before passengers get out.

The request Tesla answered concerns a further step: being able to consult those perspectives during the ride, without waiting for the end-of-journey message. Distinguishing the arrival images already documented from the new on-demand access avoids confusing an existing screen with a future feature.
Why this addition could make Cybercab more reassuring
In a traditional taxi, passengers can look outside or ask the driver what is happening. In a vehicle designed to travel without a driver on board, the interface also has the task of making the journey easier to understand. Showing the surroundings from additional perspectives may help passengers feel less removed from what the car is doing.
That is an interpretation of the feature’s usefulness, rather than a result measured in a test. More images do not in themselves demonstrate that the driving system becomes safer, nor do they transfer control of the vehicle to passengers. The value here is primarily informational: looking, understanding the situation better and getting your bearings.

Camera views do not replace care when getting out
The arrival screen is interesting for another reason: it treats getting out of the car as part of the experience, rather than stopping at simply reaching the destination. Passengers still need to check the actual conditions before opening the door. A view on the display is an additional aid, rather than a guarantee that every area around the vehicle is clear.
To assess the new feature properly, we will need to understand how Tesla integrates it into the interface: how easy it will be to find, which views it will offer and when it will be accessible. The current confirmation does not clarify these details; they will need to be checked when it is released.
Cybercab and Italy: what this news actually concerns
The images and request concern the experience of the US service. This software confirmation does not announce Cybercab’s arrival in Italy and gives no date for European activation. Developing the interface and opening the service in a new market remain separate steps.
For the European context, we have already covered statements about Cybercab potentially coming to Europe. The new fact here is narrower: Tesla is working to give passengers on-demand access to the cameras too. A small addition to the controls could make a meaningful difference to feeling more involved in the journey.
