Tesla said European Semi specifications and launch details would be revealed at IAA Transportation in Hanover. This August 2026 report looked ahead to that presentation; it did not yet describe a European truck customers could order with confirmed specifications.

The report attributed the announcement and teaser to Tesla Semi’s official X account and gave the show dates as 15–20 September 2026. The announced presentation was a milestone to follow, not proof of the sales or delivery timetable eventually disclosed.

A European version needs its own specifications

Tesla Semi arriva in Europa

A US truck cannot simply be assumed to have the same dimensions, approvals and equipment in Europe. The vehicle needs to meet the applicable European requirements, including safety and assistance provisions. At this article’s date, European range, battery capacity, power, mass and charging details remained to be confirmed.

The US range figures discussed

For context, the article cited approximately 800 km for the US Long Range configuration and just over 500 km for the Standard Range. These were rounded manufacturer-range figures for particular US versions, not European homologated ranges or a guarantee for every load, route and weather condition.

The report also described three electric motors and charging in the megawatt class, citing about 1.2 MW. Vehicle peak charging capability, the charging installation and compatibility with the MCS standard were separate details that needed the relevant specifications. A peak figure was not the sustained power of an entire charging session.

The infrastructure challenge

Megawatt-class charging requires suitable space for large vehicles, powerful grid connections and locations aligned with freight routes. Ordinary passenger-car Supercharger sites should not be assumed suitable for heavy-truck charging.

Europe was developing electric-truck charging, but readiness varied by route and depot. Semi’s practical introduction would therefore depend on infrastructure and fleet operations as well as the truck. That did not mean all routes were unsuitable or that complete network coverage was required for every depot-based use.

An established competitive field

Volvo Trucks, Mercedes-Benz, Scania, MAN and DAF were among manufacturers developing and selling battery-electric trucks for different applications. Tesla would enter a market with existing fleet experience rather than an empty category.

Tesla Semi arriva in Europa

The Semi project emphasised efficiency, range and operating cost. For fleets, purchase price is only part of the calculation: energy, charging time, maintenance, payload and utilisation affect total cost. An efficiency claim alone does not establish a saving for every operator.

What the planned presentation needed to clarify

The Hanover announcement was expected to explain the European truck’s specification, the sales timetable and initial markets. Those were the details still missing from this August account.

The event could mark an important step into European heavy transport. Whether and when the truck would suit a particular route or fleet still depended on the final product, approvals, infrastructure and commercial terms.
