- Dynamic ambient lighting: including customised welcome animations across the dashboard and doors.
- A front bumper camera: another view for close-range visibility and camera-based vehicle functions.
- New wheels and aerodynamic changes: contributing to the modest quoted range increase.
- Revised bushings and suspension: intended to make the ride smoother, without detailed specifications in the announcement covered.
- Adaptive headlights: with dynamic beam functions.
- Revised Model S Plaid styling: changes around the rear diffuser and front end, promoted for high-speed stability.
- More room for third-row passengers and luggage in Model X: no numerical comparison was supplied in the report.
A meaningful step forward or a modest refresh?
The additions made the two cars a little more refined, but the article’s overall view was that this was a restrained update. Some features, including ambient lighting, were already familiar from less expensive Tesla models. The new front camera also followed the direction seen on the refreshed Model Y.
For flagship cars, catching up with features elsewhere in the range rather than introducing distinctive new technology could be a difficult message. The welcome-light animation added a special touch on entry, but the author questioned whether it was enough to set the cars apart.
An update that raised questions
The updated Model S and Model X were an evolution rather than a reinvention. Small changes improved the experience, but the review felt that the higher price was difficult to justify through major new features alone. Buyers expecting a substantial redesign or a much wider technology leap might be disappointed.
With competition continuing to grow in the premium EV market, including from German manufacturers, the article argued that Tesla would need to do more to keep its flagships compelling.
