Tesla is continuing to expand factory automation in Europe. As already seen at its North American plants, newly built cars at Giga Berlin, Tesla’s Berlin factory, can now move without a driver. Using Tesla’s in-house FSD technology, they leave the assembly line and reach the outbound logistics yard on their own, without human driving intervention.
The first driverless journey
The process begins immediately after the final checks in the Light Tunnel. Once FSD is enabled, the car takes its first driverless route through the complex factory environment, with other moving vehicles, industrial equipment and tight spaces.
One interesting element is a stop at an internal Supercharger for a pre-delivery charge. Afterwards, the car sets off by itself and parks in the storage area, ready for transport. The process does not require operators to drive the vehicles.
100% of outbound operations
André Thierig, Senior Director of Manufacturing at Giga Berlin, confirmed the scale of the development on X, stating that the function was already used for 100% of outbound operations. It was therefore described as a standard procedure integrated into production, rather than a test.
The next ambition was bringing the technology to European roads, subject to regulatory approval. Operation inside the factory did not itself establish approval for public-road use.

Efficiency and savings
The move illustrates Tesla’s approach of using its advanced products to improve its own operations. Automating end-of-line logistics can save time and resources, removing the need for large teams of drivers to move thousands of vehicles each week.
The future of production
The process points towards manufacturing solutions in which products themselves take an active part in logistics. It is another example of Tesla’s continuing push towards automation and cost reduction in pursuit of a competitive advantage over other manufacturers.
