Tesla’s Q2 2026 results showed rising revenue alongside a lower operating margin: $28.236 billion in revenue, up 26% year on year, and a 1.4% operating margin. Reading the figures together helps distinguish sales, costs and investment.

Tesla Q2 2026: the comparable figures
The table below reproduces selected items from Tesla’s official Q2 2026 Update, page 4 of the presentation. Amounts are in millions of US dollars, compared with the same quarter of 2025.
| Measure | Q2 2025 | Q2 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | 22,496 | 28,236 |
| Operating income | 923 | 398 |
| Operating margin | 4.1% | 1.4% |
| GAAP net income attributable to common stockholders | 1,172 | 1,114 |
| Operating cash flow | 2,540 | 4,697 |
| Capital expenditure | 2,394 | 5,789 |
| Free cash flow | 146 | −1,092 |
Revenue, margin and profit answer different questions
Revenue measures activity recognised in the period, not the money remaining after all expenses. Operating margin compares operating income with revenue. Sales can therefore rise while the percentage of revenue retained as operating income falls; the indicators do not contradict one another.
For Q2 2026, operating income fell 57% year on year. GAAP net income attributable to common stockholders fell 5%. They are different income-statement measures and should not be substituted for one another when describing performance.
A meaningful comparison keeps the same scope and period. Comparing a quarter with a year, or operating income with net income, can mislead even when each number is individually correct. The table therefore keeps the labels and like-for-like quarterly comparison.
Revenue included $20.516 billion from automotive, $3.139 billion from energy generation and storage, and $4.581 billion from services and other activities. These group categories cannot be used to calculate a car’s average selling price simply by dividing total revenue by deliveries.

Cash flow: how investment changes the picture
Tesla defined free cash flow as operating cash flow less capital expenditure: $4.697 billion minus $5.789 billion, giving negative $1.092 billion. Positive operating cash flow can therefore coexist with negative free cash flow when investment exceeds it.
The income statement recognises revenue and expenses under accounting rules, while the cash-flow statement tracks cash movements across activities. Net income and cash balances should not be expected to match or change by the same amount.
Investment also does not prove that a particular project has already reached planned production. A factory or product requires specific operating evidence. Total capital expenditure cannot be assigned dollar by dollar to one programme without a documented breakdown.
What the quarter tells us—and what it does not
This archive article focuses on the quarter’s financial report. Q2 2026 deliveries and production and the size of the Supercharger network are covered separately. Those operating measures complete the picture without replacing revenue or margins.
For readers in Italy, these are global figures in US dollars. They do not describe only the Italian business, announce local discounts or set availability dates for new models. Connecting a group result directly with an Italian price-list decision would require a specific announcement.
The results also belong in their historical setting. This page reconstructs the July report without using later developments to explain the quarter retrospectively or making a forecast about Tesla shares.
