Elon Musk outlines a new era of cars: his ambition for an unrivalled Tesla Roadster

A leap into the future: Elon Musk’s ambitions
Musk shared ambitious plans for the new Tesla Roadster, reiterating his aim to create a car unlike anything before it. The proposed SpaceX package, with around ten small rocket thrusters, was central to that vision. Those thrusters were intended to improve acceleration, top speed, braking and handling, and even raise the possibility of flight. Could that really be achieved?

Beyond familiar boundaries: Tesla and SpaceX
The proposed collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX brought together automotive and aerospace technology, with the promise of an extraordinary product demonstration. Musk claimed the Roadster would accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than a second, challenging conventional expectations and setting a new performance target.

The history and ambition behind the Tesla Roadster
Despite production delays, Musk continued to promise an unprecedented electric car. The Roadster was intended to become the world’s fastest production car and challenge existing performance records, with a claimed top speed of more than 250 mph (400 km/h). At the time of this archive report, his posts suggested that the design would be finished and revealed by the end of 2024, with deliveries in 2025. These were the expectations discussed then, rather than a current delivery schedule.

Innovation and exclusivity: the future of electric cars
The proposed Roadster combined ambitious performance targets with an advanced design. With a stated range of up to 620 miles (almost 1,000 km) on a charge and an anticipated starting price of around $200,000 (€184,800 in the original report), it was positioned at the premium end of the electric car market. Limited editions and the proposed SpaceX package added to that sense of exclusivity.

Towards a new horizon
Musk’s announcements presented the Roadster as a potential milestone for electric cars. Its proposed design, performance and technology reflected Tesla’s ambition to push the category further. Whether those ambitions could be delivered remained the question behind the excitement.
What do you think? Could it really be a revolution?
