Tesla’s 2026.26 Summer Update brought attention to a part of its infotainment that had long felt rather limited: the built-in web browser.
The changes broadened what the browser could do. Access to the cabin camera and microphone opened the door to more web-based video-call services, while bookmark synchronisation, larger page content and wider full-screen video support made it more useful in everyday use.
Video calls in the Tesla browser
Compatible websites could request access to the cabin camera and microphone, with an on-screen prompt allowing the user to grant or deny permission. This enabled web services such as Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, subject to service compatibility. The cabin camera could be used for these calls only while the car was stationary and in Park.
Previously, video calls using the cabin camera had largely been associated with Zoom. The browser changes offered more choice, but the described feature required AMD Ryzen infotainment hardware and did not extend to every Tesla, including older Intel-based systems.
Bookmarks follow the Tesla Profile

Another useful change concerned browser bookmarks. With 2026.26, they could synchronise between supported Teslas using the same Tesla Profile, so a website saved in one car could also appear in another.
This could be particularly convenient when using a different Tesla, such as a loan car or rental. Bookmarks and the frequently visited sites shown on the new-tab page were associated with the driver’s profile. Synchronisation was automatic when the Tesla Profile was active.
Larger content on the screen
Tesla also changed the browser’s default zoom. The Chromium-based browser had not offered a manual page-zoom control; with 2026.26, the default magnification increased, making text, images and other page elements appear larger.
The aim was better readability on the car’s display, although the change could affect page layouts too. Responsive websites might interpret the reduced usable space as a smaller device and show a layout closer to their tablet or phone version.
Full-screen video on more websites
The browser gained full-screen playback support for more video-streaming websites. The services mentioned included Prime Video and HBO Max, with compatible content able to open in full-screen mode while parked.
This broadened the range of content accessible from the car, without turning every service into an official native Tesla Theater app. Rear-screen support remained more limited: the article noted that some services still relied on unofficial workarounds.
Changes beneath the interface
The new capabilities might also have involved a newer Chromium version. Such a change would be less visible than a new button or layout, but could address compatibility issues and improve support for modern web standards. The original article treated that underlying browser update as a possibility, rather than a confirmed version change.
That mattered because the browser had long been one of the less developed parts of Tesla infotainment. Software 2026.26 moved it closer to the capabilities people expect from a modern browser.
A more useful browser with the 2026.26 Summer Update

Some of these changes might seem small on their own. Together, they made this a substantial update to Tesla’s web browser.
Camera and microphone access expanded the kinds of services available from the parked car. Synchronised bookmarks, clearer page content and broader full-screen playback added practical improvements alongside it.
The browser changes formed part of the wider 2026.26 Summer Update, which was rolling out across markets at publication and included other infotainment and vehicle features. The exact feature set depended on hardware, software and market.
