Tesla has announced a substantial spring software update, bringing changes to the interface and several everyday features. The availability described in this article depends on each car’s hardware, model, software version and market; it does not mean every feature is supported by every Tesla.

A redesigned visual interface
The update expands the vehicle visualisation into a fuller, more immersive display while parked. It also adds larger media playback controls and quick access to recently played tracks, favourites and the playback queue.
A wider driver-assistance visualisation was also described, with a smaller navigation map in the upper-right corner. The article expected initial availability mainly in the United States. That display layout should not be confused with unsupervised driving capability.
These interface changes were described for Teslas equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor, generally vehicles fitted with the newer infotainment computer from around 2022 onwards. The processor fitted to an individual car determines eligibility more reliably than model year alone.
Automatic gear selection
Auto Shift (Beta) gains the ability to select between Drive (D) and Reverse (R) using its assessment of the surroundings, extending its parking-related functions. The driver remains responsible for checking the selected direction and the surrounding area.
The article listed support for the 2024 Model 3 and Model S/X from 2021 onwards, subject to the relevant equipment and software.
The setting described was:
Vehicle controls > Pedals & Steering > Auto Shift (Beta).

A native Audible app
Audible is added as a native in-car app for listening to audiobooks on supported vehicles. Access to content depends on the relevant account and service availability.

Spotify improvements
Spotify gains additional features, including synchronising playback and queues between vehicles and devices. Playback-speed adjustment is also included in the update described.

Hands-free opening of the rear boot
On supported cars, the rear boot can open without using your hands when the vehicle detects an approaching phone key. Support depends on the required phone, vehicle hardware and enabled settings.
The article listed the 2024 Model 3 and Model S/X from 2021 onwards for this feature, subject to compatibility.
The setting could be enabled under:
Vehicle controls > Locks > Hands-Free Trunk.

Sentry Mode recording previews
Sentry Mode gains the ability to preview a short recording on a smartphone, allowing owners to review an event near their vehicle. The feature’s requirements and availability depend on the app, vehicle and connectivity.

More regenerative braking at higher speeds
For the supported 2021-and-later Model S and Model X vehicles described, the update allows more regenerative braking at higher speeds, recovering additional energy into the battery under suitable conditions. Actual recovery depends on factors including temperature and battery charge level.
For a closer explanation of regenerative braking, watch our video below.
The rear passenger display
Rear passengers also gain updated journey information, the time and temperature at the top of the rear touchscreen on supported vehicles.
The announcement brought a range of welcome changes, and the team was looking forward to trying them. As with other Tesla software releases, owners still needed to wait for the rollout to reach their particular vehicles.
