The long-wheelbase, six-seat Tesla Model Y L could reach the United States during summer 2026, according to sources cited by Not a Tesla App. The report suggested an August–September introduction, earlier than Musk’s previous comments pointing towards late 2026 or possibly no US launch. These were reports about future plans, not a confirmed launch announcement.
Reported preparations in Texas
The article said Gigafactory Texas was being prepared to build Model Y L, with changes to the assembly lines reportedly under way. A vehicle body seen at the factory during spring and prototypes spotted on US roads and at Fremont’s test facilities were cited as signs of development. Such sightings did not establish a production or delivery start date.

More space for families
Model Y L was first introduced in China, with the report also describing its arrival in Australia, New Zealand and other Asian markets. The six-seat layout aimed to provide more room for larger families within the Model Y range.
Compared with the regular Model Y, the version described offered:
- A wheelbase extended by 150 mm;
- Overall length increased by 179 mm;
- Six seats in a 2+2+2 layout;
- separate second-row seats;
- heated and ventilated seating, depending on position and specification;
- more space for third-row passengers;
- a 16-inch centre touchscreen;
- suspension tuned for comfort.
Performance close to the Model Y Premium AWD
Despite the larger dimensions, the Chinese version’s quoted performance remained close to Model Y Premium AWD, with 0–100 km/h in approximately 4.5 seconds. Specifications for a future US or European version were not confirmed by that comparison.
The article expected a relatively small range penalty. Chinese figures used the CLTC cycle, however, which cannot be directly compared with European WLTP or US EPA ratings. Expectations for other markets remained estimates until local specifications were published.

What might it cost?
The article put the Chinese price premium at around 8% over the regular AWD version. Applying a similar percentage to the US range suggested roughly $4,000 more than Model Y Premium AWD. A European premium of a few thousand euros was also considered. Neither estimate was an announced local price.
What about Europe?
Not a Tesla App also reported that Model Y L had obtained European type approval the previous year. That report requires confirmation against the applicable approval documents. Even a valid approval would not itself establish a European sales launch or delivery timetable.
A larger Model Y could fill a useful place in Tesla’s range as availability of Model X changed. At publication, however, Tesla had not announced an official European launch date. Arrival after a possible North American introduction remained a scenario rather than a commitment.
