After months of sightings and speculation, Tesla officially unveiled the refreshed Model Y, widely known by its Juniper development name.
The updated electric SUV made its initial debut in China with a Launch Edition offered there until 28 February 2025. This article records that launch: European and US configurators still showed the outgoing model at the time, and the expectation of a later arrival elsewhere was not a confirmed delivery schedule.

A new look and changes to aerodynamics
Tesla revised the Model Y’s exterior to update its appearance while improving efficiency, comfort and everyday usability.
Slightly revised dimensions
- Length: 4,797 mm, an increase of 46 mm.
- Width including mirrors: 2,129 mm.
- Height: 1,624 mm.
Exterior changes
- Redesigned front: a light bar connects the front lighting elements, echoing the visual direction of Cybertruck and Cybercab.
- Updated rear: the new rear lighting treatment and TESLA lettering give the SUV a more distinctive appearance. The original article’s detailed description of the lamp arrangement should be checked against the launch images.
- Front camera: a newly integrated camera improves the view of the area ahead during manoeuvres. Its presence alone does not establish autonomous-driving capability.
- Revised suspension and wheels: changes were intended to improve ride quality and reduce road noise.

The revisions went beyond styling, with aerodynamic efficiency also important to the vehicle’s range.
Cabin changes for passengers and driver
The cabin also received substantial updates, with a focus on comfort and the experience of using the car.
- Customisable lighting: LED strips around the cabin provide adjustable ambient illumination.
- Heated and ventilated seats: the revised seating adds comfort features, while powered folding of the rear seats helps expand the load area. Equipment depends on the seat position and specification.
- Revised dashboard: new materials and a minimalist layout surround a slimmer 15.4-inch centre touchscreen. Rear passengers have a separate 8-inch screen for functions including climate control and entertainment.
- Acoustic glazing: additional sound insulation helps make the cabin quieter.
- Load capacity: the launch report quoted up to 2,138 litres. Cargo figures depend on the measurement method and seating configuration.

One notable detail was the steering-column indicator stalk. Unlike the refreshed Model 3, the Chinese Model Y appeared to retain it. At publication, the article had not established whether European specifications would be identical.
Versions and performance
Tesla initially listed two versions in China: rear-wheel drive and Long Range all-wheel drive. A Performance version was expected later. The following figures relate to the Chinese launch specifications described in this report.
Rear-wheel-drive version
- 0–100 km/h: 5.9 seconds.
- Top speed: 201 km/h.
- Range: 593 km on the CLTC test cycle.
- Battery: LFP, with DC charging at up to 170 kW.
Long Range version
- 0–100 km/h: 4.3 seconds.
- Top speed: 201 km/h.
- Range: 719 km on the CLTC test cycle.
- Charging: up to 250 kW DC.
A new colour and launch pricing
A new Glacier Blue paint option was among the visible additions. Black was not among the choices described at that initial launch; the possibility of its return in another form remained speculation.

The Launch Edition started at 263,500 yuan, approximately €34,900 at the conversion used in the original article. That was around 5% above the outgoing version’s price. It was a Chinese price, not a European offer. The article expected Berlin production to support a later European introduction, but Tesla had not yet supplied an official timetable for that market.
The refreshed Model Y takes another step forward
The updated Model Y combined a new exterior with cabin and chassis improvements. For buyers outside China, local specifications, pricing and delivery dates still needed to be confirmed at the time of this first report.
