Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, prompted a discussion on X by asking the community which vehicle features they wanted introduced or improved by 2026.

Among the thousands of suggestions, two stood out: saving lumbar support settings in driver profiles and the much-discussed turn signal stalk retrofit for the new Model 3.

Could the stalk return?

With Model 3 Highland, Tesla replaced the traditional stalks with touch controls on the steering wheel. Consistent with the company’s minimalist design, the choice divided the community. Some welcomed the modern approach, while others missed the stalk, particularly when signalling with the wheel turned or while manoeuvring, and found it difficult to adjust familiar habits.

The new Model Y had a turn signal stalk, suggesting Tesla was considering owner feedback. Moravy made no promise, but appeared open to assessing the suggestion.

What could owners expect?

There was no official confirmation or firm timetable at publication. Nevertheless, Tesla’s willingness to discuss retrofit possibilities mattered to customers seeking a physical control. The proposal remained under consideration, rather than an available official upgrade.

Owners who did not want to wait could already find aftermarket products from several Chinese retailers. These were unofficial accessories, not confirmation of a Tesla-supported retrofit.

Listening to feedback

A possible turn signal stalk retrofit for Model 3 Highland formed part of a broader discussion about Tesla listening more closely to its community. Saving lumbar support positions in driver profiles was another request Moravy described as feasible, although it would require some engineering work.

After years of changes often introduced from the top down, direct public dialogue with owners could help shape the next phase of vehicle development.
