In February 2026, European Tesla owners were still waiting for broader access to FSD Supervised. A report about code on Tesla’s Dutch website suggested preparation for a monthly subscription. It was an indication from a website implementation, not a public launch announcement or evidence that the driving system had been approved.

The reported Dutch website detail

Users reportedly found a commented-out “Subscription Price Hook” and a possible €99 monthly figure. That could have been a placeholder, comparable in scale with the US $99 price discussed at the time. Neither the code nor the number established a final European tariff, a completed backend or a release that could be activated immediately after approval.

Where European approval stood

Tesla had been working with the Dutch RDW and had discussed February 2026 as a target, as covered in this article. The authority’s earlier description concerned demonstrating compliance and reaching a decision, not a guaranteed launch date. As of this 27 February report, the article said no formal Dutch approval had been announced. This is a historical account, not today’s regulatory status.

European ride-along demonstrations in 2025, including cities such as Milan, Hamburg and Berlin, had given invited passengers experience of the system. Demonstrations and optimistic comments about approaching approval did not themselves authorise customer use. The article’s wording that February was already over was premature on 27 February; a target month was not yet a verified approval outcome.

Could subscriptions replace an upfront purchase?

The report linked the possible European subscription to changes announced in North America and Australia. It described the removal of the US $8,000 upfront option and a similar direction elsewhere. Canadian pricing was not necessarily the same US-dollar amount. In Europe, the article said an upfront purchase remained available at publication. A later move to subscription-only access was a forecast, not a European deadline established by the website code.

Why a subscription might appeal

As discussed in this comparison, a hypothetical €99 monthly fee could reduce the initial outlay relative to paying several thousand euros upfront. It could also allow shorter periods of use, subject to cancellation and billing terms. Which option cost less depended on duration, eligibility and terms. FSD Supervised still required active driver supervision. For Tesla, subscriptions offered recurring revenue, but neither continuous customer retention nor a particular development outcome was guaranteed.

What remained unconfirmed

The code report was worth watching because it suggested work on a commercial offering. It did not settle approval, price, supported vehicles or country-by-country availability. An official product announcement and the applicable regulatory decisions were still needed before owners could rely on a European subscription or the functions it would provide.
