A 1950s-inspired diner, two large screens for drive-in films, 80 Supercharger stalls and a rooftop with views over Los Angeles: those were the main ingredients of the new Tesla Diner in Hollywood on historic Route 66. The opening brought charging, food and entertainment together in a single location.

A concept that brings past and future together

Tesla Diner

At its opening, the Tesla Diner was described as operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It combined high-speed charging, an American-style restaurant with 250 seats and an entertainment area that visitors could also enjoy from their cars. Its design paired retro popular culture with modern technology and an emphasis on sustainability. The original article called it the world’s largest charging station, but did not establish that comparison.

The V4 Supercharger stalls were described as accessible to compatible non-Tesla vehicles with NACS connections. Solar canopies provided shade and were intended to contribute to the site’s energy supply and lower its environmental impact.

Food, charging and entertainment

The two-level restaurant offered ordering through the car’s touchscreen, via an app or at the counter, according to the opening report. The menu combined traditional diner food with newer options, including meals served in Cybertruck-shaped packaging. The Skypad rooftop offered views over the city and content shown on large screens described as approximately 20 metres wide.

The presence of Optimus, demonstrating popcorn service at the opening, also drew attention. It offered a glimpse of the robotic features Musk hoped to add to the experience, rather than proof of a fully autonomous restaurant operation.

A broader Tesla experience

Alongside the restaurant and charging stalls, the Diner offered exclusive merchandise sold on site, including clothing, accessories and collectables with retro and futuristic themes.

A busy opening, with some early problems

Anticipation was high, and the first days brought hundreds of visitors queuing to see the venue. The original report described technical issues, particularly with the ordering app, as well as longer-than-expected waits. Even so, visitors’ enthusiasm was evident, with Tesla fans and other guests sharing the atmosphere and unusual concept on social media.

A different approach to Supercharging

The project showed how charging could be combined with design, technology and a more complete visitor experience. Food, entertainment and a place to meet gave people reasons to spend time at the site beyond plugging in. The article discussed the possibility of similar venues in other cities if the concept succeeded, referring to comments Musk had made on an investor call; it did not establish an announced international rollout.
