Archive coverage published on 22 October 2026. This article reconstructs the 28 July 2026 announcement: the free charging period described below has ended and is not a current offer.

Free Supercharging during wildfires in France and Spain: on 28 July, Tesla Charging announced a temporary measure at nine locations on its network. The stated window ran from midnight on 29 July to midnight on 5 August. The message described the aim as supporting areas affected by wildfires through free charging.

This communication is worth preserving because it concerns two European countries close to Italy and illustrates a use of the network beyond normal paid charging. Its boundaries are essential, however: Tesla listed individual locations without announcing free charging throughout France, Spain or Europe.

Free Supercharging during wildfires: the dates

The direct reference is the official Tesla Charging post, whose last edit is dated 28 July 2026. It presents the measure as assistance during wildfires in France and Spain and explicitly sets the start and end of the free charging period.

The distinction between the announcement date and the days it applied matters. The communication was issued on 28 July; the free charging it describes covered the subsequent window, from 29 July to 5 August. The message consulted provides no account of the measure’s results, so it does not establish how many people used it or how much energy was delivered.

The nine locations involved

The official list contains five French locations and four Spanish ones. We reproduce the names in the announcement to keep its geographical scope clear, without turning a historical story into a list of current prices.

CountryLocations listed by Tesla
FranceArès, Biganos, Mérignac, Bordeaux Lac and Bègles
SpainCastellón, Sagunto, Fuenlabrada — Service Center and Majadahonda

The post links each entry to its Tesla Find Us page. The nine entries do not establish that other nearby stations were included, even within the same region. The operator’s published list defines the scope of the measure described.

A local measure, with no extension to Italy

For readers in Italy, the key point is straightforward: this free Supercharging announcement did not include Italian locations. On the basis of this communication, it therefore changed no terms for the national network. For people travelling in France or Spain, too, it concerned the named locations and stated period, rather than every charging stop.

The original message specifies no general refund programme for earlier sessions and promises no automatic extension. We add no conditions, exemptions or extensions that are not explicitly documented. Likewise, the announcement is not a source on road accessibility in the affected areas and describes no evacuation routes.

How to read this announcement today

This archive account preserves European news from summer 2026 while distinguishing it from the information needed to plan charging today. A temporary communication remains tied to its dates: it does not prove a station is still free months later. A current journey requires up-to-date information from the operator.

The wildfire initiative is also separate from the incorrect charges cancelled in Charlottetown, Canada, another July story. That case concerned a billing correction; here Tesla announced a temporary measure at European locations. Find further coverage in our Batteries and Charging section.
