Tesla introduced a quiet but significant reduction in the subscription price of FSD (Supervised). As described in this February 2026 report, a mobile app update the previous weekend in the United States lowered the subscription to $49 a month from $99 for owners who had already bought Enhanced Autopilot. The standard price for other users remained $99 a month. Similar pricing and procedures were expected in other markets, including Italy; this was an expectation rather than confirmation of Italian availability.
Who qualified for the discount
The discounted rate was reserved for owners who had previously bought Enhanced Autopilot, the intermediate package Tesla had sold for several years. Enhanced Autopilot owners already had features such as Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change and Autopark. Charging those users the full $99 monthly FSD price effectively meant charging again for features already purchased. The new $49 price recognised their initial investment, charging for the difference between Enhanced Autopilot and FSD, mainly associated with supervised driving on city streets.
An FSD subscription or a one-time purchase?
At the time, Tesla had confirmed that from 14 February 2026 FSD would no longer be available as a one-time purchase, only by subscription. This made the choice more significant for people considering an upgrade. The original article compared a roughly €100 monthly subscription with spending €3,800 upfront and subsequently receiving a 50% discount. It suggested that a direct FSD purchase could become more economical over long ownership, depending on the terms and duration considered.
Another factor was Elon Musk’s statement that FSD’s price would rise as the system’s capabilities increased. If that scenario materialised, the break-even point could arrive sooner.
Where the discounted rate was reported available
The report described the reduced $49 monthly FSD rate as active in the United States and Canada, and expected similar discounts elsewhere from mid-February. This expectation should not be read as confirmation of the same currency, price or availability in every market. The move illustrated Tesla’s strategy of encouraging wider FSD adoption, recognising Enhanced Autopilot buyers’ investment and preparing for a model centred on subscriptions and software.
