Tesla has quietly updated the Model Y interior in China, bringing some features from the more expensive Model Y L to the Standard and Premium versions. The aim is a more consistent, premium experience across the variants offered.
More luxury at the same price
With the arrival of Model Y L, Tesla raised the interior’s quality through improved materials and advanced features. These characteristics are now reaching less expensive models in the range, narrowing some comfort and luxury differences. Buyers of a Model Y can now find a visually similar, premium cabin across the different versions, reinforcing the brand’s premium design. Here are some of the changes.
Black fabric pillars across the range
The most visible change concerns interior pillar fabric, which replaces the familiar light grey with black. The material has a more Alcantara-like appearance. This aesthetic choice creates a more elegant feel and an impression of higher quality.
A larger, higher-resolution centre display
Tesla has also updated the centre display, increasing it from 15.4 to 16 inches. Size is not the only change: the new screen has thinner bezels, higher contrast and QHD resolution (2560×1440), compared with the previous 1920×1200, with a slightly larger screen area (+2.63%). The modern display design gives Model Y versions, and potentially future Model 3 versions, a consistent experience regardless of model.

Expected arrival in Europe and North America
At the time of this report, these updates concern only cars made at Giga Shanghai, although extension to Giga Berlin and Giga Texas is considered likely. Tesla tends to trial manufacturing changes in China before introducing them globally, optimising supply chains and production volumes.
