The quarterly update published on 20 April placed the Austin site\u2019s start among the important steps in the company\u2019s manufacturing expansion.<\/p>\n<h2>Model Y and 4680 cells<\/h2>\n<p>The first Texas-built cars described by Tesla used internally manufactured 4680 cells. The factory therefore also became an industrial application of a technical approach linking cell production, a structural battery pack and vehicle manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>That information concerned the cars and circumstances announced then. It did not establish the same configuration for every Model Y, every market or all future Texas production. Building the same model at different plants does not automatically make every component identical.<\/p>\n<h2>A start that still needed to scale<\/h2>\n<p>The period\u2019s documentation distinguished Model Y, already in production, from Cybertruck, still under development. Opening the factory was not confirmation that every vehicle associated with the site was ready for customers.<\/p>\n<p>The next step was to increase output amid the component and supply constraints affecting the industry.
