The central idea was to integrate more components into a factory-prepared system, reducing the work needing coordination at the customer’s site.

Archive coverage of the September 2025 presentation, reported by Not a Tesla App on 10 September. Text prepared in October 2026.

Megapack and Megablock: the new architecture

What it means for an installation

The industrial plans announced at the time

Megapack and Megablock: the new architecture

The new Megablock platform brought together four Megapack 3 units with a transformer and medium-voltage electrical equipment. Accounts of the presentation described each new unit as offering 5 MWh, bringing the complete block to 20 MWh.

The difference was not just the quantity of energy. Integrating the equipment into the same design aimed to simplify connecting the storage system to the grid and reduce construction-site complexity.

What it means for an installation

An industrial storage system includes more than batteries: it needs power conversion, protection, connections and controls. Preparing these elements together allows more of the work to be tackled before the system arrives on site.

MWh measures how much energy can be stored. It does not, on its own, describe the power available in every configuration or how long a city could be supplied: those comparisons also require knowing the load.

The industrial plans announced at the time

Tesla linked the new generation to the Houston Megafactory, with production planned for 2026 and a target capacity of up to 50 GWh a year. Official third-quarter 2025 documentation confirmed the four-Megapack 3 architecture and those production plans.

These were the forecasts at the time, rather than certification that the factory had already reached those volumes. This article preserves that stage of Tesla Energy’s history without replacing it with subsequent developments.

Sources

Not a Tesla App, 10 September 2025; Tesla, Megablock announcement on 9 September; Tesla, Q3 2025 update, Energy section.

Megapack storage systems: official Tesla archive photo.
