The Basecharger, introduced by Tesla Charging on 1 May 2026, was designed for extended Semi stops at fleet depots.

Archive coverage of the 1 May 2026 announcement, prepared in October 2026. The specifications quoted are those communicated in the original message.

Basecharger: charging during longer stops

The power electronics are inside the charging post

Charging follows the fleet’s working pattern

Basecharger: charging during longer stops

Tesla introduced the Basecharger with 125 kW of power, alongside the 1.2 MW Megacharger intended for short stops. The aim was to give businesses two tools for different needs: recovering energy during a break on the road or using downtime at their operating base.

This was therefore not a home charger for passenger cars. Tesla’s reference to charging “at home” in its post described the depot’s role in a truck’s routine.

The power electronics are inside the charging post

The design integrated AC-to-DC conversion into the charging point, removing the need for a separate cabinet. Tesla specified a six-metre cable, useful when planning yard layouts.

The company also explained that up to three Basechargers could be daisy-chained on a single breaker, sharing 125 kVA. Sharing is the key detail: this did not mean each of the three charging points could deliver its maximum power simultaneously.

Charging follows the fleet’s working pattern

The choice between a system for long stops and one for quick stops depends on how journeys and breaks are organised. A truck setting off the next morning and one needing to return immediately to service place different demands on the installation.

The announcement documented a new infrastructure option for the Semi, without promising immediate installation or uniform availability across countries.
