Tesla communicated its operational figures on 2 April 2025, covering the first three months of the year. Energy storage product deployments totalled 10.4 GWh over the same period.

The breakdown separates Model 3 and Model Y from other models: the first two vehicles together account for 323,800 deliveries and 345,454 units produced. The second group records 12,881 deliveries and 17,161 vehicles produced. The release does not separate individual models within these two groups: attributing a precise number solely to Cybertruck or Model Y would require other sources.

Production and deliveries measure two different stages

Production counts vehicles built, while deliveries count those handed to customers during the period. The difference between the totals is 25,934 units, calculated by subtracting deliveries from production. This is an accounting difference between two flows, rather than a complete picture of where all the cars were at the end of March.

For example, a vehicle may be built near the end of one quarter and delivered in the next. Understanding stock requires specific information about inventory and vehicles in transit: subtraction alone cannot automatically classify every unit as unsold. Likewise, these figures do not indicate how many orders Tesla received during the quarter.

Changing the lines for the new Model Y

Tesla links the loss of several weeks of production during the quarter to the changeover of Model Y lines at all four involved vehicle factories. The company describes the new version’s production ramp-up positively, without quantifying in the release how many vehicles were lost exclusively because of this transition.

The industrial context therefore helps explain the figures but does not isolate every possible cause of deliveries. It would be incorrect to turn the company’s explanation into a precise measurement of the refresh’s effect. To learn about the new vehicle, see our article on the updated Model Y’s unveiling.

New Model Y, official Tesla image from January 2025 in Teslhub’s library. Archive photograph.

Energy storage and financial results

The 10.4 GWh figure concerns the nominal energy capacity of storage products deployed during the quarter. It is not a count of cars delivered or energy supplied by Superchargers, and cannot be added to vehicle volumes: these activities use different units of measurement.

Tesla accompanies its Q1 2025 delivery figures with a caution about their financial significance. Vehicle volumes and storage deployments represent only some measures of activity. Alone, they do not describe profit, margins or cash flows: average prices, costs, currencies and other factors also matter. Financial results were announced for 22 April; this account does not use information published after 2 April to anticipate them.

How to read these figures from Italy

The totals are global and do not represent Italian registrations. The release provides neither a national breakdown nor an estimate of delivery times for people who ordered in Italy. It therefore does not automatically establish availability, discounts or waiting times for a particular configuration.

This distinction is also useful when comparing articles from different dates. An operational summary for the first three months describes that period; a later financial communication answers other questions. Retaining both dates helps reconstruct the announcement sequence without mixing what was already known with what would follow.

Source: Tesla Investor Relations release of 2 April 2025.
