The event reconstructed here is Tesla Charging’s announcement on 19 September 2026, according to the date displayed in Italy. Subsequent information is not used to describe availability at that time.

Supercharger maps are coming to the Tesla app too. Tesla Charging announced the addition with a demonstration posted on its official account: an update particularly useful for getting to know a station before reaching it, beyond simply seeing the point marking it on a road map.

The announcement confirms the move to the phone, but does not include a complete list of enabled stations or promise coverage throughout Italy. That is the limitation to bear in mind when comparing the demonstration images with what appears on your own device.

In this article

Supercharger maps on your phone

The September announcement

Availability in Italy

Supercharger network, Tesla archive photo. This is not a screenshot of the feature in the app.

Supercharger maps: from a point on the map to the station

A location answers the question “where is the station?”. A site representation instead helps explain how the area is arranged. The two kinds of information complement each other: the route gets you to your destination, while station detail can help you find your way around on arrival.

The practical value is particularly clear in unfamiliar places. Looking at an available representation on a phone beforehand can make the stop easier to understand, including for someone planning the journey with the driver. It does not mean every location already shows the same level of detail.

What the September announcement confirms

The confirmed addition is Site Maps in the latest app at the time of the announcement. This should not be confused with the initial introduction of maps on the vehicle display: Teslhub had already covered Supercharger maps in the in-car system.

The official post does not specify a minimum version valid for every phone, provide separate iOS and Android requirements or list the markets covered. We therefore do not attribute universal availability or an Italian release date to an announcement that Tesla did not give.

What it means for charging in Italy

The correct interpretation remains tied to the individual site and the interface actually available. Seeing a feature in a demonstration does not guarantee that every Italian Supercharger will immediately show a detailed map.

A map is also an information tool: it does not in itself reserve a stall or guarantee that conditions at the stop will remain unchanged until arrival. The September announcement concerns the app display, rather than changes to prices or charging power.

App, navigation and software: three separate checks

When reading news like this, it helps to distinguish three elements. The first is the phone app, the environment named in the announcement. The second is the in-car system: a feature appearing in the app does not establish a required vehicle software version. The third is the individual station, because a representation available for one site does not automatically document the situation at others.

This distinction also avoids confusing station maps with a road-map update. The post concerns Supercharger detail viewed in the app, rather than new roads or a different route calculation. The announcement alone therefore provides no instructions for installing maps in the vehicle or forcing the feature to appear.

For a trip in Italy, the practical question remains whether the detail is actually present for the station in question. If not, the announcement does not establish a deadline for it to appear. Giving a minimum version or national schedule without a Tesla communication would add certainty that the source does not provide.

Primary source: Tesla Charging’s announcement and demonstration.
