This differs from normal vehicle charging because the energy is being used for external equipment.

Archive coverage published on 22 October 2026. This article reconstructs the official announcement of 15 August 2026 and does not attribute compatibility added later to that August announcement.

In this article

The Model Y Premium announcement

Stated power and voltage

What it means for Italy

Model Y Premium: power for devices, lights and tools

In its official message, Tesla presents the ability to power devices, lights and tools. The component it identifies is the Outlet Adapter: the August announcement describes it as an accessory that can be added while configuring the vehicle or purchased in the Tesla Shop.

The communication explicitly concerns Model Y Premium. However, it contains no production date that, by itself, establishes which earlier vehicles are compatible. It is therefore incorrect to assume that simply owning a Model Y with that commercial name automatically provides the feature, or to infer that an upgrade is available for every car already delivered.

Model Y Premium in the communication of 15 August 2026. Photograph: Tesla North America.

2.4 kW: the figure to read alongside 120 volts and 20 amps

The three numbers Tesla published describe the same output: 120 volts multiplied by 20 amps equals 2,400 watts, or 2.4 kW. Voltage and current are part of the specification, so reporting power alone would omit useful context about the intended market.

The message does not give an operating duration for every appliance. It therefore does not support promises of a particular number of hours for a tool or device, or descriptions of this single outlet as a complete home backup system.

A US announcement, with no Italian launch

The United States and Puerto Rico are the territories named by the original source. The announcement does not give an Italian launch, a euro price or a European date: those details cannot be inferred simply because the vehicle is also called Model Y in our market.

The distinction also matters when comparing shop pages updated later. A compatibility list consulted in October does not establish what was available on 15 August. We therefore retain the scope of the contemporary announcement without adding other models or retrofit promises.

Original source: Tesla North America, 15 August 2026.

For more developments, find further articles in our Batteries and Charging section and updates on the Teslhub Telegram channel.

Alessandro Marmaglio · The Teslhub team

Tesla’s 15 August 2026 announcement described a 120 V, 20 A external power outlet for Model Y Premium in the US and Puerto Rico.
