Tesla\u2019s European FSD Supervised expansion faced a reported Swedish objection in June 2026. The article said Swedish officials had asked for an EU-wide approval proposal to be rejected. This was a report about a position in an ongoing procedure, not a final European rejection or a universal suspension of existing permissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It attributed the information to a letter seen by Reuters, identifying the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket or TRV, and a recommendation to the EU\u2019s Technical Committee\u2013Motor Vehicles (TCMV). The concern described was a software speed-offset setting. The underlying letter and each national authority\u2019s formal role still require primary-document verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a speed offset means<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A speed offset adjusts the system\u2019s selected target relative to a detected or entered speed limit. The original report focused on the ability to choose a value above that limit. A software setting never gives legal permission to exceed a speed limit, and actual behaviour depends on the approved version and conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reported Swedish argument was that allowing systematic above-limit settings could undermine traffic rules and the safety benefits sought from driver assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The article said Sweden would oppose approval unless that possibility was removed. This should be read as the reported position in the letter, not a voting result already recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why the issue extended beyond Sweden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The letter was reportedly dated 30 April, following expansion of testing after the Dutch RDW decision. The article also named Belgium, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania as accepting or allowing forms of use. Their precise permission, dates and scope were separate matters; testing, national acceptance and an EU-wide approval should not be conflated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European system differed from North American software and driving profiles. More conservative settings could address local requirements, but did not settle every regulator\u2019s concern about the speed-offset function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reported 30 June meeting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The article expected a TCMV meeting on 30 June 2026 to consider wider approval. This was a prospective date in a 23 June article, not confirmation of what the meeting later decided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It described the qualified-majority threshold as at least 15 of 27 member states representing 65% of the EU population. The applicable committee procedure and consequences for provisional permissions required the governing documents. In particular, the suggestion that some permissions could lapse within six months was conditional, not a confirmed expiry date for every country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What it meant for Italian owners then<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The report did not announce a change for Italian owners. It suggested Tesla could address the objection by limiting or removing the speed-offset setting through an over-the-air update. That was a possible technical response, not proof that one change would satisfy every approval requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If an acceptable revision were assessed in time, it might reduce this particular concern. Otherwise, disagreement could delay the broader process. Neither outcome was certain simply from the existence of the reported letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The anticipated meeting was therefore one milestone to follow in the historical approval process. It was not a reason to assume immediate Italian availability or that supervised assistance had become autonomous driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
