Unlike the previous design, which was open underneath and allowed air to circulate from the cabin, <strong>the new housing appeared fully sealed<\/strong>. Its design closely resembled that seen on <strong>Cybercab<\/strong> prototypes, suggesting Tesla might be <strong>standardising its sensor architecture<\/strong> as it developed unsupervised FSD and future robotaxis. That resemblance alone did not confirm the purpose of the redesign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Haze and glare: a familiar issue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Owners had reported a phenomenon known as <strong>off-gassing<\/strong>, which can resemble fogging. Some plastics in the dashboard and camera housing release vapours over time. These can accumulate in the area in front of the cameras and <strong>condense on the inside of the windscreen<\/strong>, leaving an oily, hazy film. In direct sunlight, that film can create <strong>strong glare<\/strong> that affects the visibility needed by Autopilot and FSD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/teslhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Model-Y-standard-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Model Y\" class=\"wp-image-4491\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The measures used so far<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the preceding year, Tesla had introduced several measures, according to the report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a <strong>DIY procedure<\/strong> for cleaning the front camera glass<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>professional precision-cleaning service<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in-car notifications prompting owners to book service or clean the camera area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The procedure was described as relatively straightforward, though Tesla had sometimes offered <strong>a one-off free cleaning<\/strong>. Subsequent work was reported to cost around <strong>$60 or \u20ac60<\/strong> and to be performed as needed. Those figures described experiences at the time, rather than a universal service entitlement or current quotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Could improved sealing solve the problem?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new <strong>sealed housing<\/strong> appeared designed to tackle the cause. Separating the cameras from cabin air could <strong>isolate the glass from vapours<\/strong> released by interior materials, reducing the formation of a film. Similar designs on Cybercab and newer Model Y cars suggested <strong>a further development of Tesla\u2019s hardware<\/strong> aimed at reducing maintenance and corrective work, though long-term results remained to be established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/teslhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Tesla aggiorna l\u2019alloggiamento delle telecamere frontali su Model Y\" class=\"wp-image-4791\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>The new design<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Following up on an earlier commitment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change was consistent with Musk\u2019s remarks the previous September. He had publicly acknowledged the difficulty of keeping front camera glass clean and the delicate nature of DIY access, saying <strong>making this easier was a priority for the engineering team<\/strong>.
