The underlying approval document and variant scope require checking before treating the report as confirmation of a commercial launch. Type approval alone would not establish that customers could order the car in every European market.

Model Y L had launched in China in August 2025. The article linked it with a possible late-2026 expansion discussed by Musk, then inferred that European approval might bring an earlier launch. That was a timing inference, not a date Tesla had announced for Italy.

A longer six-seat Model Y

Model Y L used a longer wheelbase rather than simply adding seats to the standard-length cabin. The report cited the following dimensions and layout. Its stated +177 mm length comparison was inconsistent with the 4,790 mm standard Model Y listed later: 4,976 minus 4,790 is 186 mm, so the relevant reference version matters.

Wheelbase: 3,040 mm, described as about 150 mm longer than the comparison Model Y.

Overall length: 4,976 mm.

Six seats in a 2–2–2 layout.

Dimensions compared with Model Y and Model X

Width figures in the original comparison, including mirrors:

Model Y L: 2,129 mm.

Model Y: 2,129 mm.

Model X: 2,271 mm.

Overall length:

Model Y L: 4,976 mm.

Model Y: 4,790 mm.

Model X: 5,060 mm.

Height:

Model Y L: 1,668 mm.

Model Y: 1,623 mm.

Model X: 1,679 mm.

The 2–2–2 seating layout

Two individual second-row captain’s chairs, rather than a bench, were a defining feature. The arrangement left a central passage towards the third row, while the report described powered armrests. Actual access and comfort still depended on the occupants and seat positions.

The seating equipment reported

First row: heated and ventilated seats, adjustable head restraints and powered thigh support.

Second row: heating and ventilation, adjustable head restraints, powered armrests and assisted folding as described for the version shown.

Third row: heated seats, powered folding, dedicated USB-C connections and additional side-airbag protection as reported. Exterior dimensions alone did not quantify usable lateral cabin space or make one vehicle better for every family.

Battery, range and comfort features

The report attributed a number of technical details to the proposed European version. Its forecast of a European price above €55,000 was not an Italian list price, and currency conversion did not account for taxes or market specification.

It also forecast a European debut around late Q1 or early Q2 2026, based on an assumed interval between homologation and sales. That interval was not guaranteed. Model Y L could offer another option for larger families, but the European order date, price and delivered equipment still needed official confirmation at publication.

💶 REFERRAL PROGRAM 🚘

The referral offer described at publication: €500 off a new Tesla.
