It gives owners of supported vehicles information about the battery\u2019s health and its ability to retain energy compared with its original condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Addressing owners\u2019 questions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Battery health is a common concern among Tesla owners. A difference between the advertised range and the figure shown in the car can be worrying, although driving habits and environmental conditions often explain that gap rather than actual battery degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, checking battery health generally meant asking Tesla for a diagnostic test or using an independent workshop. Tesla later introduced a test in <strong>Service Mode<\/strong>, but this was not recommended for owners to use directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With <strong>update 2025.8.3<\/strong>, Tesla brought the test into the normal vehicle interface on the centre display, making it easier for owners of compatible cars to access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How does the battery test work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to early reports from owners who received the update, the car had to remain connected to an AC charger for up to <strong>16 hours<\/strong> while the diagnostic process completed. That was an early reported duration, not a universal time limit: Tesla\u2019s owner instructions allow up to 24 hours. Follow the requirements and warnings shown by the vehicle. Climate controls are disabled during the test, so occupants must not be left unattended inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The original report also described the process as helping to <strong>recalibrate the battery management system (BMS)<\/strong>. Tesla\u2019s manual describes an energy-retention test; it does not promise that the test will repair degradation or provide a guaranteed recalibration benefit.
