This report described Tesla beginning to equip its vehicles with a new 5G modem<\/strong>, a step forward in connectivity. It concerned the new Model 3, Cybertruck and Model Y, which had previously used LTE (4G) modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For owners of a Tesla with an LTE modem, the obvious question was whether a 5G retrofit would be possible. At publication, Tesla\u2019s parts catalogue did not list a price for the new module, suggesting that a replacement was not yet publicly available<\/strong>. The update would also involve more than swapping hardware: Tesla Service would need to program the module and integrate a SIM associated with the vehicle identification number. Tesla had previously offered a 4G upgrade for vehicles with 3G modems<\/strong> when those networks were retired, leaving open the possibility<\/strong> of a similar option for 5G. This was not confirmation of a 5G retrofit programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
