Production began in July 2017, followed by a series of changes and eventually the <strong>Highland refresh<\/strong>, which was on sale when the article was written.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/b4714d_22eef9555c3f4b07b0e68737b9ebf7f7~mv2.jpeg\/v1\/fill\/w_800,h_454,al_c,q_85,enc_auto\/b4714d_22eef9555c3f4b07b0e68737b9ebf7f7~mv2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-fs1zn1370\">The refreshed Model 3 had initially arrived in <strong>rear-wheel-drive<\/strong> and <strong>Long Range all-wheel-drive<\/strong> versions. The anticipated <strong>Performance<\/strong> variant was still missing from the range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-6nk9a3512\">Pre-launch reports suggested a more distinctive appearance, a dual-motor powertrain and possibly a new <strong>Ludicrous<\/strong> name, inferred from a rear badge. These were rumours about the forthcoming car. The original comparison with a three-motor predecessor was inaccurate and should not be treated as an established Model 3 specification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-5562634169\">Tesla had used Ludicrous branding for high-performance modes in earlier vehicles, before the Plaid models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/b4714d_b5d41ea81ca24642873a21bc461e3363~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_925,h_643,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto\/b4714d_b5d41ea81ca24642873a21bc461e3363~mv2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-guu6p1372\">Several reports, including sightings shared on our social channels at the time, suggested that <strong>an unveiling was approaching<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-cnim82476\">Images circulating on X appeared to show a <strong>private event in Malibu<\/strong> attended by a small group, possibly including journalists and bloggers. The attendee list and purpose were not fully established by the photographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-a6d2v1374\">The first event images showed the vehicle covered by a sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/b4714d_0346b7bf635f4c69a0d9dd4961a4d689~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_925,h_563,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto\/b4714d_0346b7bf635f4c69a0d9dd4961a4d689~mv2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-mjovs1376\">Further sightings included an uncovered car on US roads.
